The Last Chance Dinner Club started on May 13, 2000 and it is still going strong. It all started as a way for three friends (Connie, Laurie and Paul) to get together on a regular basis. We all liked to cook and it seemed like a good idea at the time. All three of us were partnered with other people who liked to cook as well. Now, over three years later, only one of those three relationships has survived but the club has continued. Since our first dinner (Thai), we’ve pulled together over eighty dinners and almost each one came from a different cuisine.
If you are anything like us, you like the challenge of tackling new cuisines, new ingredients, the thrill of hunting them down and the satisfaction of showing up with a great new dish. Since this site has started so long after the club did, the many dinners past do not show up though I suspect bits and pieces of them will over time. So the dates of the postings will not match the times of the dinners. Who cares. Its not when you eat; its what you eat that matters. And who with.
How the actual club works is that we alternate homes and all cook for the dinner. That way no one is stuck with making an entire dinner and each can spend a lot of time on one dish if they want to. Kind of takes the pressure off. So you decide on a cuisine, negotiate on who makes what, and then put it together at whosever house you are at. If you are nice, you all help clean up. It also makes things more interesting if you have guests. Usually the people whose house it is at invite some people. You just have to remember to keep the cooks informed as to how big the dinner is going to be. It is a good idea in general to stay in contact in the last few days so everyone both remembers, and is able to adjust to any last minute changes.
As of December 2008, the blog is going to include food items that might have arisen through travel or trolling the net. Its more than just about dinner.

Garrell and Rhond love dinner club. Battle chocolate rocked. Tell Laurie to remove chicken from light fixture as I’m sure it is a fire hazard. Doug has extinguisher right? Talk soon – Over Go to dinner I hope.
Thanks,
Rhonda and Garrell
